Clothing
- The Budget Shop: Run by volunteers, this shop offers clothing and other items at discount.
- The Encore Shop: Located at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Encore Shop specializes in clothing, toys, games, books and household goods.
- USD 383 FIT Closet: The FIT Closet & Clothing Exchange is a program of the Manhattan-Ogden school district. They help the school district meet the needs of qualified students by providing necessary school supplies, clothing, shoes, coats, hygiene supplies, and other essentials, so these students can attend class and integrate successfully. *Available to students and their families.
- Ogden Friendship House: For over 25 years, the Ogden Friendship House of Hope has been dedicated to helping the at-risk community of Ogden by providing assistance and guidance to those in need through a number of services including clothing and home needs. The Friendship house also has a food pantry.
- Shared Blessings: The Shared Blessings Ministry is filled with thousands of articles of clothing, for all ages baby to adult. There are also dishes, other household items, appliances, furniture, medical devices, and more. If you have a need for these thing please contact us and set up an appointment. These things are shared at no charge. The workers have endeavored to keep only the nicest and stain free items that are donated.
Emergency Financial Assistance
- Catholic Charities: Catholic Charities may be able to help withup to $200 in a one-year period for rent, utilities, and/or prescriptions – depending upon the availability of funds and your qualifying status. Visit website for more details or call the Manhattan office at: 785-323-0644
- Shepherd’s Crossing: You must be a Riley County or St. George resident in financial crisis to qualify for assistance. Shepherd’s Crossing assists those who have no other financial recourse and are unable to pay their electric, gas, rent or prescription drug bills. We do not require a client to have a shut off notice or an eviction notice. Each case is determined on an individual basis by Shepherd’s Crossing’s counselors, and all counselors are required to maintain client confidentiality. Food
- Cat’s Cupboard; The K-State Food Pantry: A campus food pantry providing perishable & non-perishable food, hygiene products, and gently used kitchen supplies to currently enrolled K-State students, staff, faculty and visiting scholars (for students and staff of KSU).
- Common Table Meals: A coalition of churches serving free meals every night of the week. No qualifications. Free to everyone. Currently carry out only service.
- Flint Hills Breadbasket: A food pantry for Manhattan residents who are experiencing food insecurity. The Breadbasket is a community food network that collects and distributes food through church pantry vouchers, commodity programs, backpack programs, and assists with applications for government food programs.
- Harvesters Food Network & Mobile Distribution: Harvesters is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Our mission is to mobilize the power of our community to create equitable access to nutritious food and address the root causes and impact of hunger. - Konza Student Table: A free dinner for anyone in the K-State Community that needs one. Every Wednesday, beginning at 5:30, located at 711 Denison Ave.
- Riley County Food & Farm Council: The purpose of the Food and Farm Council is to advocate for and sustain an accessible, healthy, and local food system. Find free meals, food and assistance on our website.
Health Services
- Community Care Ministries: Community Care Ministries serves community members whose household income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty level, and are uninsured or underinsured. We provide non-emergent medical care, social service assistance to include but not limited to assistance with rent, utilities, clothing, limited transportation, as well as food pantry, commodities, and senior commodities. - Flint Hills Community Clinic (Manhattan Free Clinic): The Flint Hills Community Clinic provides quality and compassionate free medical care to the uninsured living in Manhattan and neighboring communities.
- Konza Prarie Community Health Center: Konza provides affordable, quality, comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare to all people in the communities we serve – whether you have private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or are uninsured.
- Pawnee Mental Health: A non-profit offering a range of mental health and substance use treatment and recovery services. Providing services regardless of patient’s ability to pay.
- Riley County Health Department: Walk-ins welcome, RCHD assists those without insurance on a sliding scale. For more information about services, call 785-776-4779.
Laundry & Shower Services
- Laundry Love at Suds Y’r Duds Laundromat: Laundry Love MHK is a neighboring movement seeking to provide support in the form of free laundry to all individuals and families who need it. On the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 5pm-9pm, laundry is free for up to 5 loads per person. Anyone is welcome, an array of detergents to choose from, along with complimentary dryer sheets. Quarters distributed by our volunteer crew.
- First Presbyterian Church: First Presbyterian Church offers showers for community members from 5pm-7pm every Tuesday. Located at 801 Leavenworth, 785-537-3113.
- Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc.: The emergency shelter allows for any community member to shower as long as they are not currently banned from the premises.
Shelter
- Crisis Center, Inc.: Provides confidential, round the clock services to victims of sexual or domestic violence. Services include crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, and safe shelter. The Crisis Center serves Clay, Geary, Marshall, Pottawatomie and Riley counties, and the Fort Riley military installation. The Crisis Center also administers the statewide Kansas Crisis Hotline.
- Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc.: Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc. provides safe shelter and housing stabilization services for the homeless individuals and families of Manhattan.
- Manhattan Housing Authority: Manhattan Housing Authority’s mission is to develop and manage safe, good quality, affordable housing for income qualified individuals and families in a manner that promotes engaged citizenship, community, and self-reliance.

- Be Able Community Center: Be Able engages with those in adversity by creating connections, cultivating skills, and opening doors of opportunity. We are a group that has collectively noticed the gaps and the individuals burdened by falling through. We wanted to open up a shop for those out there who perhaps don’t fit in, are reluctant to move forward, or don’t know-how. We each have ample experiences with the fantastic social service organizations of the Manhattan area and have taken note of the growing need to serve those in the gaps.
