Part Time Library Assistant, Adult Services
We have an opening for an enthusiastic person to join our team as a library assistant. The primary responsibility of this position is providing customer assistance, reader’s advisory, and supervision in the library’s children’s, teen, and adult service areas. The selected candidate may also assist with programs and special events. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic statuses.
Requires a high school degree or equivalent and at least one year in customer service. Library experience, some college or equivalent education is desired. Experience working with children and teens is beneficial. This is an 18-hour-per-week position, $15.79/hour. The schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends. The selected candidate must be available for at least one weekday closing shift and one weekend (Saturday or Sunday) shift each week.

Adult Services Manager
Manhattan Public Library is seeking an experienced, inclusive, and collaborative leader to serve as the Adult Services Manager. Primary responsibilities include oversight of Reference Desk services and customer relations, adult readers advisory services, homebound services, and technology training. This includes the scheduling and direct supervision of the Adult Services librarians, supervisors, technology trainer, and the indirect supervision of nine assistants that staff the Reference, Teen, and Children’s desks. The Adult Services Manager also acts as Librarian in Charge by taking primary responsibility for library security on a rotating basis.
The Adult Services Manager collaborates closely with Library management and administration on the creation and implementation of Library-wide goals and initiatives, cultivates leadership skills for themselves and their team, and contributes to the development of a library culture that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, creativity, collaboration, and transparency.
Our ideal candidate would have a Master’s Degree or equivalent in Library Science from an ALA accredited university, at least 2 year’s experience in a library public services role, and at least 1 year experience in a supervisory role. A combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the job may be considered. The schedule is usually 8-5 Monday through Friday, but evening and weekend coverage assistance are needed several times/year. The salary is $62,142/year and includes a generous benefits package.
