Manhattan Public Library Announces New Literacy Support Fund
Patricia Lambert Swann fund will support reading, writing, and English-language learning opportunities
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Manhattan Public Library is pleased to announce the establishment of the Patricia Lambert Swann Literacy Support Fund at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (GMCF). The fund was created through a generous gift from Patricia and Michael Swann of Leawood, Kansas.
The fund will provide financial support for Manhattan Public Library reading and writing programs, including programs for individuals for whom English is not their native language. Support may be used for existing and future programs that promote reading, writing, language learning, and related educational opportunities for community members of all ages.
The fund also reflects a longstanding connection between Patricia Swann and Manhattan Public Library. Patricia grew up in Manhattan, and her father, Jack L. Lambert, was a longtime Library Board member and volunteer. Patricia also worked at Manhattan Public Library during the transition from the Carnegie building to its current home at 629 Poyntz Ave.
Library leadership is deeply grateful to the Swanns for their generosity and continued investment in the community. “The Swanns’ generosity will give Manhattan Public Library additional opportunities to support literacy and language learning throughout our community,” said Eric Norris, Director. “We are incredibly grateful for their investment in the Library and in the people we serve.”
