Teen Services Librarian
The Manhattan Public Library is looking for a dynamic individual to help plan and execute services for youth in grades 6th through 12th. An ideal candidate will have a passion for working with teens and knowledge of young adult trends and literature. The ability to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is essential.
Primary responsibilities for this position include:
- Identifies needs for teens in the community, and helps plan and coordinates services to meet those needs.
- Provides outstanding customer service to all ages, including reference and readers advisory.
- Helps staff the Teen Zone as a safe and positive space for teens to hang out, study, navigate a complex world, improve literacy, and develop workforce readiness.
- Maintains an engaging teen area with displays and other passive readers advisory.
- Assists the Youth Services Manager with the teen volunteer program.
Requires a high school degree or equivalent and at least one year in customer service. Library experience, some college or equivalent education is desired. Experience working with children and teens is beneficial. This is a 20-hour-per-week position, $16.49/hour. The schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends, scheduled Tuesdays through Saturdays.
