Part Time Library Assistant, Adult Services

We have an opening for an enthusiastic person to join our team as a library assistant. The primary responsibility of this position is providing customer assistance, reader’s advisory, and supervision in the library’s children’s, teen, and adult service areas. The selected candidate may also assist with programs and special events. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic statuses.

Requires a high school degree or equivalent and at least one year in customer service. Library experience, some college or equivalent education is desired. Experience working with children and teens is beneficial. This is an 18-hour-per-week position, $15.79/hour. The schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends. The selected candidate must be available for at least one weekday closing shift and one weekend (Saturday or Sunday) shift each week.

Adult Services Supervisor

The library is seeking candidates for a Public Services Supervisor to assist with selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of library assistants. Interprets library policy and procedures for library staff and the general public. Provides customer service at the Reference Desk, Children’s Desk, and Teen Zone, by performing tasks that contribute to the success and smooth operation of the department. Serves as back-up for department operations in the absence of the department manager, and acts as Librarian in Charge by taking primary responsibility for library building maintenance and security, customers, and staff on a rotating basis. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic statuses.

The desired education and experience include a Master’s of Library Science degree or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; one year customer service experience; one year library experience; one year of supervisory experience.

The salary is $22.22/hour; $46,220.83/year, 40 hours/week, and is a benefits-eligible position. The schedule involves at least one evening per week, plus being on the Friday evening and weekend rotation, and occasional changes to accommodate vacations, illnesses, etc.

Acquisitions and Finishing Assistant

Manhattan Public Library is looking for a dedicated team member to help with acquisitions and finishing materials. The person in this position will support the library’s mission of serving a diverse community by keeping the periodical collection up-to-date, assisting the catalogers with brief entries on Polaris, deleting items from the MPL collection, finishing and processing items, verifying shipments received from delivery services, and other duties as assigned. This is a 40-hour-per-week position with excellent benefits. The regular schedule is M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and the salary is $15.79/hour; $32,842.67/year. If you are interested, please submit the online application by 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 27th.

Training Specialist

Manhattan Public Library is accepting applications for a Training Specialist who will be responsible for designing, delivering, and evaluating Information Technology (IT) training programs for new hires, employees transitioning into new roles or assignments, and organization-wide initiatives involving new software, systems, or technology. The Training Specialist will provide support for IT-related projects, ensuring alignment with training objectives and departmental needs.

Desired qualifications include an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in information technology, education technology, or related field, two years experience in information technology support or a related field, experience training adults, and library experience. The job is on-site, and the schedule will be 24 hours a week; primarily M-F between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The schedule will vary depending on department needs and will include occasional evening and weekend hours. The wage is $20.22 per hour. Benefits include annual leave, medical leave, personal leave, paid holidays, and KPERS retirement. The position will be open until filled.
