Safety & Security Manager

The Manhattan Public Library is looking for a Safety & Security Manager who is passionate about keeping our library safe, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone. The Safety and Security Manager will work directly with the public, deescalate conflicts or disruptive situations, lead a security team, monitor facilities, enforce policies, and provide safety training for staff, all while fostering a positive, community-centered environment. Maintains records and creates policies relating to safety and security. Trains and supervises part-time security guards. This role also involves coordinating with local agencies, responding to incidents, and supporting library staff and patrons with professionalism and care.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in security, safety, or law enforcement.
  • High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree in security management or related field preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, deescalation skills, and problem-solving skills.

The starting salary is $63,385.67/year plus excellent benefits. The schedule is generally 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Flexibility required for occasional evenings or weekends to meet staffing and training needs.

Part Time Library Assistant, Circulation (evenings and weekends)

Manhattan Public Library is seeking a customer-focused person to work in the Circulation Department. Library assistants help customers check library materials in and out, answer or re-direct phone calls, answer questions concerning borrowing library materials, and sort and shelve materials. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic statuses.

Desired qualifications include a high school degree or equivalent and one year of customer service experience. Library experience and some college or equivalent education are beneficial. This is an 18-hour-per-week position and pays $15.79/hour. The schedules are based on the needs of the library which include days, evenings, weekends school semester breaks, and holidays.

Technology Trainer

Manhattan Public Library is seeking an innovative, dynamic, and enthusiastic Technology Trainer to join our team. The Technology Trainer will design, deliver, and evaluate technology training programs for the public, new hires, staff transitioning to new roles, and organization-wide initiatives involving new software, systems, and technology—supporting patrons and colleagues with or without disabilities. The ideal candidate will be a patient communicator, skilled in both instruction and real-world application, with a strong understanding of the public library environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment creating a safe and welcoming environment to people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientation, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic status.

Desired qualifications are a degree or coursework in Education, Library Science, Instructional Technology, or a related field and one year experience delivering technology training, ideally in a library, school, or public service setting. A combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the job may be considered.

The starting salary is: $42,060.70 plus excellent benefits. The schedule is generally 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Flexibility required for occasional evenings or weekends to meet staff and outreach program needs.
